Google used its annual Google I/O 2026 developer conference to unveil a wave of artificial intelligence upgrades, new tools for Search, and futuristic wearable technology — with several features confirmed for rollout across the Arab world, including the UAE.
From AI-powered video generation to smart glasses and faster Gemini models, the event highlighted Google’s growing focus on integrating AI into everyday digital experiences for consumers, creators, and businesses.
Gemini Omni introduces AI-powered video creation
One of the biggest announcements at Google I/O 2026 was Gemini Omni, Google’s new AI content-generation system that combines Gemini’s reasoning capabilities with advanced multimedia creation tools.
The platform allows users to generate and edit videos using prompts based on text, images, audio, and existing video clips. Users can also make conversational edits, such as changing camera angles, environments, styles, or scene details without restarting the project.
Google confirmed that the first version, called Gemini Omni Flash, is rolling out through the Gemini app, Google Flow, and YouTube Shorts, including for users across the Arab region.
The feature could become particularly useful for UAE-based content creators, influencers, marketers, and small businesses producing short-form videos for platforms such as YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, and TikTok.
Google also announced that videos created using Omni will include SynthID watermarking technology designed to identify AI-generated content.
Google Search gets a major AI transformation
Google is also overhauling its Search experience with what the company described as the biggest upgrade to Search in more than 25 years.
The new AI-powered Search experience allows users to ask longer, more natural questions instead of relying on traditional keyword searches. It can also process multiple types of input, including images, files, videos, and even browser tabs.
Google says the AI Search experience will roll out in regions where AI Mode is supported, including across the Arab world.
For UAE users, this could change how people search for travel information, compare products, research gadgets, discover restaurants, or browse recommendations online.
The update also reflects increasing competition between Google Search and conversational AI platforms such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
Gemini 3.5 Flash targets speed and productivity
Google also introduced Gemini 3.5 Flash, the newest model in its Gemini AI lineup.
According to the company, the model is designed for faster responses, coding assistance, workflow automation, and long-task processing. Google claims the system can generate answers significantly faster than many competing frontier AI models.
For UAE businesses, developers, and startups, the key point is availability. Google confirmed that Gemini 3.5 Flash is now accessible across Google products and APIs in the region.
The company also previewed Gemini 3.5 Pro, which is expected to launch next month.
Google expands tools to identify AI-generated media
As concerns around misinformation and deepfakes continue growing worldwide, Google also announced new updates to its SynthID verification system.
The company says its AI-detection tools will expand into Search and Chrome, helping users determine whether images, videos, or other media were generated or edited using AI.
Google also revealed that companies including Nvidia, OpenAI, and ElevenLabs are adopting SynthID standards as part of wider industry efforts to improve AI transparency.
For journalists, educators, businesses, and content creators in the UAE, such verification tools may become increasingly important as AI-generated content becomes more realistic.
Android XR smart glasses hint at Google’s wearable future
Beyond software announcements, Google also showcased its Android XR vision for wearable computing.
The company demonstrated two smart-glasses concepts:
- Audio-first glasses offering spoken AI assistance directly through earpieces
- Glasses featuring small in-lens displays capable of showing real-time contextual information
Although Google did not announce UAE pricing or launch dates, the reveal signals a renewed push into augmented reality and AI-powered wearables.
The sector is becoming increasingly competitive, with companies such as Meta and Apple also investing heavily in next-generation wearable technology.
Given the UAE’s reputation as an early-adopter market for premium consumer technology, Android XR devices could eventually attract strong local interest among professionals, travellers, and creators.
Some AI features remain limited to the US for now
Not every feature announced at Google I/O 2026 will be immediately available in the UAE.
Google confirmed that its new Universal Cart AI shopping feature — which connects shopping activity across Search, Gemini, YouTube, and Gmail — will initially launch only in the United States later this year.
Some advanced AI agent systems, including the Antigravity 2.0 platform, also appear to be targeted primarily at developers and enterprise customers during the initial rollout phase.
