Apple is expected to place artificial intelligence at the centre of its next-generation iPhone software experience when it unveils iOS 27 during the upcoming Apple Worldwide Developers Conference 2026 keynote on June 8.
While Apple has not officially revealed details of the update, industry reports and leaks suggest iOS 27 could be one of the company’s most significant software releases in recent years, introducing major improvements to Siri, Apple Intelligence, and several core iPhone applications.
Siri could become a more advanced AI assistant
One of the most anticipated changes is a substantial upgrade to Siri.
According to reports, Apple’s voice assistant is expected to evolve into a more intelligent AI-powered companion capable of understanding personal context, recognising on-screen content, and performing actions across multiple apps.
Users will reportedly continue to activate Siri through voice commands or the iPhone’s power button, but Apple may introduce a redesigned interface integrated with the Dynamic Island for a more interactive experience.
Industry analysts also suggest Siri could eventually gain its own standalone application, positioning it more directly against AI assistants such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google Gemini.
Reports further indicate that Apple may allow users to choose between different AI models for certain Apple Intelligence features, potentially including technology from external partners.
Apple Intelligence expected to receive major enhancements
Apple Intelligence, the company’s AI platform, is also expected to gain several new capabilities.
Leaks suggest upgrades may include:
- Improved image generation quality in Image Playground
- Enhanced Genmoji creation tools
- AI-generated wallpaper creation
- More advanced writing assistance for grammar, clarity, and sentence structure
- Smarter text suggestions and content refinement
Apple may also introduce natural-language shortcut creation, allowing users to build custom automations simply by describing what they want the iPhone to do.
Wallet, Camera and Weather apps could see new features
Several built-in Apple applications are also tipped for updates.
The Wallet app may receive a new “Create a Pass” feature capable of scanning physical tickets, membership cards, and documents to automatically generate digital Wallet passes.
The Camera app is expected to offer greater customisation, including personalised control layouts and widgets designed to improve the photography experience.
Meanwhile, the Weather app could introduce a new Conditions section providing more detailed forecasting information and weather insights.
Which iPhones may support iOS 27?
According to recent reports, Apple could end software support for the iPhone 11 series and the second-generation iPhone SE.
If the leaks prove accurate, iOS 27 would require an iPhone 12 or newer device.
However, many advanced Apple Intelligence features are expected to remain exclusive to newer hardware, including:
- iPhone 15 Pro
- iPhone 16 series
- Future iPhone models
AI expected to dominate Apple’s next chapter
The upcoming WWDC keynote is widely expected to showcase Apple’s evolving artificial intelligence strategy as competition intensifies across the technology industry.
With rivals rapidly expanding AI-powered ecosystems and digital assistants, iOS 27 could mark a major step in Apple’s effort to integrate AI more deeply into everyday iPhone experiences while maintaining its traditional focus on privacy and user control.
Apple is scheduled to officially unveil iOS 27 and its broader software roadmap during the WWDC 2026 keynote on June 8.
