Apple’s much-anticipated foldable iPhone, widely expected to be called the iPhone Ultra, may launch next year with only a limited selection of colours, according to recent leaks and industry reports.

Reports suggest that Apple is planning to focus on elegant premium finishes rather than introducing bright or vibrant shades for its first foldable smartphone. The device is expected to arrive alongside the iPhone 18 Pro series in September 2026.

Technology reports indicate that early information from well-known Weibo leaker Instant Digital claimed the foldable iPhone would initially be available in just two colour options. At the time, white was reportedly confirmed, while the second colour remained undisclosed.

More recent supply-chain leaks suggest Apple could offer the device in a silver-white finish and an indigo variant similar to the Deep Blue shade rumoured for the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro models. Sources also claim Apple is unlikely to introduce colourful options during the first launch phase.

Industry observers note that this strategy is similar to Apple’s approach with the iPhone X in 2017, which debuted only in Silver and Space Gray despite being a major redesign. Apple later expanded colour choices in future versions, and the same could happen with the foldable iPhone Ultra.

Production challenges may also be influencing the company’s decision. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently stated that manufacturing yields for Apple’s foldable iPhone could remain limited through the end of 2026, potentially leading to supply shortages into 2027.

By limiting the number of colour variants, Apple could simplify manufacturing and inventory management for what is expected to be one of the company’s most technically advanced smartphones.

The foldable iPhone is also expected to carry a premium price tag. Reports from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggest the device could cost more than $2,000 — approximately Dh7,345 in the UAE — making it the most expensive iPhone ever released.

Although Apple has not officially confirmed the product, rumours indicate the iPhone Ultra will feature a book-style folding design, high-end camera technology, and flagship-level hardware aimed at competing with foldable smartphones from rivals such as Samsung.
