Apple is reportedly working on a major transformation for Siri, with plans to relaunch the voice assistant as a standalone AI chatbot application alongside iOS 27. The company is expected to place a strong emphasis on user privacy while introducing several advanced artificial intelligence features designed to compete with popular AI chat platforms.
According to recent reports, the new Siri app will allow users to automatically manage and delete conversation history. Users may be given options to erase chats after 30 days, after one year, or store them permanently. These privacy-focused controls are similar to features already available in Apple’s Messages app and could offer users greater transparency and control compared to many rival AI chatbot services.
The redesigned Siri application is expected to function much like modern AI chat assistants. Users may be able to access previous conversations, begin fresh chats instantly, upload files, and interact through voice commands. Apple is also reportedly testing customizable startup options, allowing users to choose whether the app opens directly to a blank conversation screen or displays recent chat history.
Interestingly, while Apple is promoting the upcoming Siri as a highly private AI experience, reports suggest the company could rely on Google’s Gemini AI models to power many of its advanced features. Apple is said to be using its own Private Cloud Compute system to process user requests securely, although details about how the technology will operate on a larger scale remain unclear.
Industry experts believe Apple is under pressure to strengthen Siri’s capabilities as competitors continue to introduce more advanced AI systems. Google recently showcased deeper AI integration across Android devices, including tools capable of performing complex actions across multiple apps, highlighting the increasing competition in the AI assistant market.
Reports also indicate that internal test versions of iOS 27 currently label the upgraded Siri experience as a “beta” feature. Users may even have the option to disable the AI assistant entirely. This suggests Apple is still refining the platform ahead of its expected public release later this year.
In addition to Siri improvements, Apple is reportedly preparing new updates for Genmoji, its AI-generated emoji feature. The upgraded system may create personalized emoji suggestions based on users’ photos and frequently used phrases, adding a more customized experience to messaging.
Apple is expected to reveal more details about its next-generation AI features during its upcoming developer events in the coming months.
