Samsung could be preparing a major overhaul of its foldable smartphone branding strategy, with new leaks suggesting the company may rename its next premium foldable device ahead of its expected launch in July 2026.

According to reports, the device previously expected to arrive as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 may instead debut under the name Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, signalling Samsung’s intention to position the foldable lineup more closely alongside its premium Galaxy S Ultra series.

Samsung may push foldables further into the ultra-premium category

The rumoured branding shift suggests Samsung wants its book-style foldable phone to become the company’s ultimate flagship device, featuring top-tier specifications and advanced hardware upgrades.

Leaks indicate the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra could feature:

  • A larger 5,000mAh battery
  • Enhanced premium hardware
  • Samsung’s familiar triple-camera setup
  • Improved performance and multitasking capabilities

Meanwhile, Samsung’s second foldable device, reportedly called the Galaxy Z Wide Fold, may arrive with slightly reduced specifications, including:

  • A 4,800mAh battery
  • Dual rear cameras
  • No dedicated telephoto lens

The move could create clearer separation between Samsung’s premium and mainstream foldable offerings.

Experimental foldable design may keep standard Fold branding

Interestingly, reports suggest Samsung could reserve the regular “Galaxy Z Fold 8” name for a different experimental foldable device instead.

That model is expected to feature a new form factor and slightly lower-end specifications, making the Ultra branding easier for consumers to distinguish within Samsung’s expanding foldable lineup.

The strategy would mirror Samsung’s existing approach in the Samsung Galaxy S Ultra range, where Ultra devices represent the company’s most advanced hardware.

Smaller selfie cameras and cleaner displays expected

Another notable hardware change may involve the front-facing camera system.

According to leaked renders and industry reports, Samsung is expected to reduce the size of the selfie camera cut-out on the external display for both foldable devices.

The redesign could improve screen immersion and reduce visual distractions while using the cover display.

Reports also suggest the same front-camera technology could later appear in Samsung’s future Samsung Galaxy S27 lineup next year.

Samsung reshapes flagship strategy as competition grows

Rumours indicate Samsung’s wider naming overhaul may extend beyond foldables.

The company is also reportedly developing a Galaxy S27 Pro model, potentially combining Ultra-level hardware with a smaller phone design, possibly without the integrated S Pen.

If the leaks prove accurate, Samsung appears to be repositioning its flagship smartphone strategy as competition intensifies in the foldable and premium mobile market.

The reported changes also come as Apple is widely expected to enter the foldable smartphone segment with its first foldable iPhone in 2026, increasing pressure on Samsung to strengthen its lead in foldable devices.
