Gold 101.3 FM, UAE’s No.1 Malayalam radio station, reports that Apple has agreed to a $250 million settlement in the United States following a class action lawsuit related to its promotion of artificial intelligence features for Siri.

The lawsuit accused Apple of misleading millions of iPhone buyers by advertising advanced AI capabilities for its voice assistant, Siri, that were allegedly not available at the time—and may not be for years. According to court documents reviewed by AFP, plaintiffs argued that the company promoted features that “did not exist at the time, do not exist now, and will not exist for two or more years” in an effort to drive iPhone sales.

The issue also drew scrutiny from the Better Business Bureau National Advertising Division, which found that Apple’s advertising gave the impression that an AI-enhanced Siri experience was already available.

The proposed settlement, which still requires court approval, applies to approximately 36 million eligible devices. These include the iPhone 16, as well as the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models purchased in the United States between June 10, 2024, and March 29, 2025.

Under the terms of the agreement, affected customers may receive around $25 per device, with potential payouts reaching up to $95 depending on how many claims are approved.

In a statement to the Financial Times, Apple said it chose to settle the matter to remain focused on innovation and delivering quality products to its users, while not admitting any wrongdoing.

The complaint also referenced a survey by Morgan Stanley, which found that an upgraded Siri experience was the most anticipated feature among potential iPhone buyers at the time.

Apple had heavily promoted these AI capabilities in a major 2024 marketing campaign but later acknowledged delays and withdrew related advertisements.

The settlement now awaits approval from Judge Noel Wise of the federal district court for the Northern District of California, with a hearing scheduled for June 17, 2026.
