Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor’s ‘Peddi’ has made a strong opening at the box office, registering impressive numbers on its first day and early shows, according to trade tracker Sacnilk.

According to information available with Gold 101.3 FM, UAE’s No.1 radio station, Buchi Babu Sana’s directorial collected a net ₹51 crore on its first full day (Thursday, June 4), across 12,412 shows nationwide, with an overall occupancy of 45.5%, indicating steady audience turnout across regions.

The film had already gained momentum through Wednesday evening premieres, which brought in ₹18.50 crore net with a strong 72% occupancy, driven by advance bookings and high fan anticipation. This early surge helped boost the overall opening performance.

Combined figures place the film’s opening at ₹69.50 crore net in India and ₹82.49 crore gross, with the worldwide total crossing ₹112.49 crore on Day 1.

Regionally, Telugu markets led collections with 6,944 shows and a strong 68% occupancy, driving most of the film’s opening strength. Hindi markets contributed ₹3 crore from 4,333 shows at 16% occupancy, while southern languages added steady support—Kannada ₹0.25 crore, Tamil ₹0.45 crore, and Malayalam ₹0.10 crore.

As celebrations continued, trade analyst Ramesh Bala shared a video of Upasana Konidela interacting with fans during the ongoing success celebrations. He noted that the film’s strong performance has sparked widespread fan festivities across locations.

‘Peddi’, directed by Buchi Babu Sana, is a sports drama set in Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh, inspired by the real issue of villages in 1996 that remained unrecognised in government records. The story follows Peddi, played by Ram Charan, a talented athlete from an unnamed village who rises through local sports circuits while fighting systemic neglect.

The narrative also features Achiamma, played by Janhvi Kapoor, and later reveals Peddi’s journey being rediscovered in 2016 during a national sports talent search. The film explores themes of identity, marginalisation, and resistance through sport, with Peddi ultimately choosing to fight for his village’s recognition and dignity.

However, amid the celebrations and strong box office response, the film has also faced criticism over the portrayal of Janhvi Kapoor’s character, with concerns raised about objectification and certain disturbing sequences. Janhvi Kapoor recently liked a social media post criticising the film, which described it as “the most expensive disrespect ever paid to a leading woman in Indian cinema,” further fuelling discussion online.
