Schools across Kerala reopened on Monday after the summer vacation, marking the beginning of a new academic year with colourful ‘Praveshanolsavam’ celebrations across the state.

Teachers welcomed students into brightly decorated classrooms, greeting newcomers with decorative crowns and warm smiles. The sound of chenda melam and festive music added to the celebratory atmosphere as children, both excited and nervous, began a fresh chapter in their academic journey.

The state-level inauguration of the school reopening festival was held at the Government Model Girls Higher Secondary School in Pattom, Thiruvananthapuram. Chief Minister V D Satheesan inaugurated the function, while General Education Minister N Samsudheen presided over the event.

Speaking at the programme, the Education Minister announced that more than 3.14 lakh students have enrolled in schools across Kerala for the new academic year, reflecting continued confidence in the state’s education system.

As reported on Gold 101.3 FM, UAE’s No.1 Radio Station, the inauguration ceremony was attended by Health and Devaswom Minister K Muraleedharan, Transport Minister C P John, and several public representatives, along with personalities from the fields of education, art and culture.

Preparations for the state-level event included extensive planning through an expanded organising committee meeting held at the Pattom school. The meeting brought together representatives from teachers’ organisations, Samagra Shiksha Kerala, political parties, voluntary organisations, education experts, government officials, PTA and SMC members, school heads, alumni associations and youth groups.

A 101-member organising committee coordinated the celebrations, with Thiruvananthapuram Mayor V V Rajesh serving as chairman, Education Standing Committee Chairman Chempazhanthy Udayan as vice chairman, and Sreeja Gopinath as general convener.

Meanwhile, with lakhs of students returning to schools and increased traffic expected during peak hours, the Motor Vehicles Department has imposed restrictions on tipper lorry operations in several districts to enhance road safety for schoolchildren and commuters.

The reopening of schools marks not just the start of a new academic year, but also the return of classrooms, friendships and learning spaces that once again come alive with the energy of students across Kerala.
