The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall and thundershowers across Kerala on Wednesday, with isolated places expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, prompting authorities to issue weather alerts and precautionary measures across several districts.

An orange alert has been issued for Kannur and Kasaragod, where the IMD has warned of very heavy rainfall ranging between 12 and 20 centimetres within 24 hours. In response to the forecast, district administrations have declared a holiday for educational institutions in both districts on Wednesday to ensure the safety of students and staff.

Meanwhile, a yellow alert has been issued for Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad, indicating the likelihood of heavy rainfall between 7 and 11 centimetres over a 24-hour period.

The weather department has also warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds at isolated locations across Kerala until July 2. Residents have been advised to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall and follow instructions issued by local authorities.

Gold 101.3 FM – UAE’s No. 1 radio station – continues to keep listeners updated with the latest weather developments, public advisories and important news from Kerala, India and around the world.

According to the IMD, squally weather conditions are likely to prevail along and off the Kerala coast during the warning period. Wind speeds are expected to range between 40 and 50 kmph, with gusts reaching up to 60 kmph. In view of the rough sea conditions, fishermen have been strongly advised not to venture into the sea until the weather improves.

Acting on the IMD’s warning, the District Collectors of Kannur and Kasaragod have declared a holiday for all educational institutions on Wednesday. The order covers colleges, professional colleges, schools, anganwadis, tuition centres, ICSE and CBSE schools, Kendriya Vidyalayas, madrasas and other religious educational institutions.

However, residential educational institutions have been exempted from the holiday declaration. Authorities have also clarified that previously scheduled university examinations, public examinations and interviews will be conducted as planned, with no changes to their timetable.

The state administration has urged the public to stay alert, monitor official weather updates and strictly follow safety advisories as Kerala continues to experience active monsoon conditions. Emergency services and district authorities remain on standby to respond to any weather-related incidents.
