Kerala is expected to continue receiving widespread rainfall on Tuesday as the state prepares for the likely arrival of the southwest monsoon in the coming days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rain and thundershowers across most parts of the state and has issued yellow alerts for four districts.
The yellow alert has been issued for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha and Ernakulam on Tuesday. The alert will continue on Wednesday for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Alappuzha, while no weather alerts have been issued for Thursday and Friday as of now.

The IMD has also issued warnings for thunderstorms, heavy rainfall and rough weather conditions over Kerala and Lakshadweep for Tuesday and Wednesday. Thunderstorm warnings are expected to remain in effect on Thursday and Friday, while heavy rainfall alerts have already been issued for Saturday and Sunday. In addition, fishermen have been advised to exercise caution due to unfavourable sea conditions during this period.
Authorities have warned that heavy rain could lead to poor visibility, traffic congestion and waterlogging in low-lying areas. Strong winds accompanying thunderstorms may uproot trees, break branches and damage power infrastructure, potentially affecting electricity supply and transportation services. Farmers have also been alerted about possible damage to standing crops, particularly those nearing harvest.
The weather department has further cautioned about the risk of landslides in vulnerable hilly regions and lightning-related accidents in open spaces. Residents have been advised to avoid weak structures, follow official traffic and safety advisories, and move to safe shelter during thunderstorms and lightning activity.
Although the IMD had earlier predicted the onset of the southwest monsoon over Kerala by Tuesday, the department noted that there could be a margin of error of three to four days. According to the IMD, atmospheric conditions remain favourable for the further advance of the monsoon into additional parts of the southwest and southeast Arabian Sea, the Comorin region, the Bay of Bengal and the remaining parts of the Andaman Sea over the next two to three days.
