Mammootty’s fourth National Film Award has sparked celebrations across the Malayalam film industry, with colleagues and fans hailing another historic milestone in the legendary actor’s career.
The veteran actor was named Best Actor at the 72nd National Film Awards for his powerful performance as Kodumon Potti in Rahul Sadasivan’s horror drama Bramayugam. He shared the honour with Kartik Aaryan for Chandu Champion, adding another prestigious recognition to a career spanning more than five decades.

One of the first reactions came from Mammootty’s son Dulquer Salmaan, who celebrated the win with a light-hearted social media post about his father’s fourth National Award, jokingly telling him, “No pressure son! You do you.”
Mohanlal congratulated Mammootty, calling the achievement a proud moment for Malayalam cinema, while Kamal Haasan praised his longtime friend and recalled Mammootty’s earlier promise of surpassing him in the number of National Awards.
Mammootty thanked the team behind Bramayugam and director Rahul Sadasivan for giving him the role of Kodumon Potti, while also congratulating all the National Award winners. This marks his first National honour in 27 years after his 1998 win for Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. His earlier Best Actor awards came for Mathilukal and Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha in 1989, and Ponthan Mada and Vidheyan in 1993.
The success of Bramayugam extended beyond Mammootty, with cinematographer Shehnad Jalal winning the Best Cinematography award. Malayalam cinema also celebrated more victories, with Vaikom Vijayalakshmi winning Best Female Playback Singer for A.R.M. (Ajayante Randam Moshanam), Feminichi Fathima winning Best Malayalam Film, and Bhadra Kali Natakam receiving a Special Jury Mention.
