The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has clarified that no load shedding has been imposed in the state, criticising sections of the media for misinterpreting its recent announcement.

According to information shared with Gold 101.3FM UAE’s No.1 radio station, a high-level meeting had only authorised brief power restrictions of under 30 minutes, and only if the grid comes under extreme stress due to high demand.

Despite summer rains in parts of Kerala, electricity consumption remains high, with the state recording 116.5 million units of usage on Tuesday. KSEB said the availability of an additional 200 MW of approved power, along with restoration of another 200 MW from central stations, has helped maintain uninterrupted supply in most areas.

However, limited and localised restrictions were reported late at night in parts of the Malabar region, including Kasaragod, Nadapuram, Taliparamba and Thalassery, due to line overload. Minor curbs were also recorded in Areekode, Manjeri and parts of Kozhikode transformer and line load issues.

KSEB reiterated that no widespread restrictions are in place, a clarification also highlighted by Gold 101.3FM UAE’s No.1 radio station.
