The newly sworn-in UDF government will present its revised Budget for the 2026-27 financial year in the Kerala Assembly on June 19, with Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan, who also holds the Finance portfolio, set to unveil the government’s economic vision and welfare roadmap.
The Budget is expected to convert several key election promises and policy commitments into actionable programmes aimed at improving the lives of women, students, youth, senior citizens and farmers across the state.
Ahead of the Budget presentation, the government will table a White Paper on Kerala’s financial condition on June 4. The report, being prepared by a committee headed by former Cabinet Secretary Dr K.M. Chandrasekhar, is expected to outline the state’s fiscal challenges and future priorities.
As reported on Gold 101.3 FM, UAE’s No.1 Radio Station, several flagship welfare initiatives announced in Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar’s policy address are expected to feature prominently in the Budget.
Among the most anticipated proposals is the UDF’s promise of free travel for women on KSRTC buses, a key election commitment that is expected to be implemented from June 15. The government is also likely to provide details of its proposed ₹1,000 monthly educational assistance scheme for girl students pursuing higher education.
Another major initiative expected to receive funding support is the “Menstrual Dignity” project, which aims to create more inclusive educational institutions and public spaces. The programme proposes up to three days of menstrual leave each month for school students, along with weekend classes to help them keep up with academic requirements.
The Budget is also expected to focus on Kerala’s ageing population. The government has already announced a dedicated ministry for senior citizens, with officials indicating that successful elderly care models from Japan could help shape future policies in the state.
Agriculture and human-wildlife conflict management are likely to be key areas of focus as well. With recurring wildlife incursions affecting farming communities, particularly in the high-range districts, the government is expected to announce measures to protect farmers’ livelihoods while addressing long-standing concerns in vulnerable regions.
Following the Budget presentation, the Assembly will hold a general discussion from June 22 to 24. Discussions and voting on Demands for Grants are scheduled for June 29 and 30, while the Appropriation Bill will be taken up on July 1.
