Bekal Police have seized six cars and detained a group of youths who allegedly organised an illegal and dangerous car racing event on the playground of Government Higher Secondary School, Pallikkara, in Kerala’s Kasaragod district. According to police, the organisers claimed the event was being held as a promotional activity for Operation Toofan.

The incident took place during the afternoon, just as students were leaving the school after classes. Parents had also gathered on the campus to pick up their children when several vehicles allegedly began performing high-speed racing and reckless driving manoeuvres on the school playground, raising serious concerns about public safety.

Local residents, alarmed by the dangerous driving and the potential risk to students and bystanders, immediately alerted the Bekal Police.

Responding to the complaint, probationary Sub-Inspector Prince John reached the school premises and directed the participants to stop the racing. Police said some members of the group allegedly refused to comply and instead assaulted the officer while he was attempting to carry out his duties.

The injured Sub-Inspector was taken to the District Hospital in Kanhangad for treatment. After receiving medical care, he was discharged and sent home.

Following the incident, Bekal Police launched an operation and impounded six cars that were allegedly used in the illegal racing event. Several of the seized vehicles were found displaying stickers of international football stars associated with the FIFA World Cup.

Police said separate cases will be registered against those involved. One case relates to assaulting a public servant while on duty, while another concerns reckless driving and endangering public safety by conducting dangerous vehicle races in a public place.

Investigators are now working to identify all those involved in organising and participating in the event. As part of the investigation, police are collecting CCTV footage, videos recorded on mobile phones by witnesses and participants, and other visual evidence to establish the sequence of events and identify those responsible.

Authorities are also examining whether proper permission had been obtained to use the school premises and whether additional legal violations were committed. Police said strict action would be taken against everyone found responsible, emphasising that reckless driving and activities that endanger public safety, particularly near educational institutions, will not be tolerated.
