Malayalam cinema’s ambitious pan-Indian thriller ‘Operation Tral’ has crossed a major milestone, with the makers officially announcing the completion of filming.
The high-stakes investigative thriller, starring Jayasurya and directed by Ratheesh Vega, has wrapped its principal photography after an extensive shooting schedule across several locations in India.
Marking the occasion, the makers released a warm celebration video from the film’s pack-up party, giving audiences a glimpse of the team coming together to mark the completion of a challenging production. Producer Joby George Thadathil of Goodwill Entertainments summed up the mood on set with a simple line: “every cinema just happens.”
Behind that understated statement, however, lies a production mounted on an expansive scale. The film was shot across a diverse range of locations, taking the team from Kerala and Coimbatore to New Delhi, Kullu, Manali, Mussoorie and the rugged terrains of Ladakh.
The wide geographical canvas reflects the makers’ ambition to create a Malayalam film with a distinctly pan-Indian appeal. Goodwill Entertainments, the production house behind critically acclaimed and commercially successful films such as ‘Kishkindha Kaandam’, ‘Romancham’, ‘Kasaba’ and ‘Abrahaminte Santhathikal’, has mounted the project on a sizeable budget.

‘Operation Tral’ is being positioned as a major pan-Indian release and is scheduled to arrive simultaneously worldwide in five languages — Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi.
At the centre of the film is Jayasurya, an actor known for taking on a wide variety of roles and exploring different genres throughout his career. ‘Operation Tral’ draws inspiration from a real-life encounter between the Indian Armed Forces and terrorists in Tral, Jammu and Kashmir.
The film combines elements of national intelligence, investigative intrigue and high-octane action while also carrying an emotional and patriotic core. The storyline is expected to explore the human and emotional dimensions surrounding an operation set against a tense security backdrop.
Ratheesh Vega has written and directed the film and has also composed its songs and background score. The project features a strong ensemble cast, including Ritika Singh, Kavya Shetty, Anson Paul, Nandalal Krishnamurthy, Vinay Rai, Siddique, Sai Kumar, Murali Sharma and Sirajudheen.
The film’s first-look poster, which was unveiled recently, has already generated considerable interest among moviegoers and added to anticipation for what is being positioned as one of the major Malayalam releases to watch.
The technical crew is equally packed with experienced talent. Najos handles cinematography, while Shafeeq VB is responsible for editing. Noble Jacob serves as project designer, with Sajeesh Thamarassery handling production design.
With principal photography now complete, the film is set to move into its post-production phase. The completion of a shoot spanning Kerala, Tamil Nadu and several northern locations, including the challenging terrain of Ladakh, marks an important step forward for the project.
The focus now shifts to the film’s post-production work and its eventual worldwide release in five languages. With its large-scale production, real-life-inspired storyline and multi-language release strategy, ‘Operation Tral’ is aiming to take Jayasurya and Malayalam cinema to an even wider national and international audience.
