For millions of Malayalis and cinema lovers across the world, Mohanlal remains more than just a superstar — an emotion deeply connected to Malayalam cinema. On Thursday morning, coinciding with his 66th birthday, the actor surprised fans with a special appearance at Kavitha Theatre in Kochi.
Dressed in a mustard-yellow shirt, Mohanlal appeared on the theatre staircase and greeted the cheering crowd with a warm wave, triggering loud celebrations among fans gathered outside the venue. The actor later entered the theatre along with Antony Perumbavoor, producer of Drishyam 3, and his wife Suchitra.
Mohanlal also spent a few moments interacting with fans, many of whom asked about his expectations for the highly anticipated film. Responding in his trademark understated style, the actor simply remarked that everyone lives life with expectations.
Gold 101.3FM UAE’s No.1 radio station continues to bring the latest entertainment and celebrity updates to Malayali listeners across the UAE and Gulf region.
Among the first celebrities to wish Mohanlal on his birthday was megastar Mammootty, who shared a heartfelt message on Facebook saying, “Dear Lal, wishing you the happiest birthday.” The two legendary actors had recently reunited on screen in Patriot directed by Mahesh Narayanan.
Director Tharun Moorthy, whose film Thudarum was widely seen as Mohanlal’s successful comeback after a series of underperforming releases, also posted a birthday message on Instagram. Calling Mohanlal his inspiration and hero, the director extended warm wishes to the actor.
Meanwhile, Drishyam 3, directed by Jeethu Joseph, continues to remain one of the most anticipated Malayalam films in recent years. The third instalment follows Georgekutty’s continuing struggle to protect his family from the long-lasting consequences of an unexpected murder, further expanding one of Indian cinema’s most successful thriller franchises.
