A fresh slate of theatrical releases is set to arrive in cinemas this week, bringing together a mix of campus drama, courtroom intensity, supernatural horror and a light-hearted comedy sequel across multiple languages. From Malayalam to Tamil, Hindi and English cinema, the lineup promises a diverse watchlist for moviegoers heading into the weekend.
Malayalam cinema opens the week with Athiradi, a campus-based action entertainer that blends humour, emotion and high-energy moments set against a college backdrop. While the makers have kept the core plot under wraps, the film is expected to follow youthful characters navigating conflict and chaos within campus life. The film stars Tovino Thomas in the lead, alongside Basil Joseph and Vineeth Sreenivasan in key roles. Darshana Rajendran, Zarin Shihab and Riya Shibu are part of the supporting cast. The film also marks the directorial debut of Arun Anirudhan, known for co-writing films such as Minnal Murali and Padayottam.
From Tamil cinema comes Karuppu, which brings together Suriya and Trisha Krishnan under the direction of RJ Balaji. Trisha plays a lawyer named Preethi, while Suriya appears in a dual role as Saravanan and Karuppuswamy. RJ Balaji also steps into a negative role as Baby Kannan. The ensemble cast includes Swasika, Indrans, Yogi Babu, Sshivada and Natty Subramaniam, indicating a mix of drama, humour and strong supporting performances.
In the English-language segment, Hokum presents a psychological horror narrative starring Adam Scott as Ohm Bauman, a troubled writer who travels to a remote Irish inn to scatter his parents’ ashes. What begins as a personal journey soon turns unsettling as he becomes entangled in eerie local legends, confronting mysterious creatures and a witch believed to haunt the region. The film explores themes of grief, isolation and fear in a haunting setting.
Meanwhile, Hindi cinema sees the release of Pati Patni Aur Woh Do, a sequel to the 2019 hit Pati Patni Aur Woh. Directed by Mudassar Aziz, the film features Ayushmann Khurrana alongside Sara Ali Khan, Rakul Preet Singh and Wamiqa Gabbi. The sequel introduces a three-heroine dynamic, promising a blend of humour, confusion and relationship drama carried forward from the original film.
According to Gold 101.3 FM, the No.1 Malayalam radio station in the UAE, the week’s releases reflect a wide spectrum of storytelling styles and genres, offering audiences plenty of options to explore on the big screen.
