Malayalam actor and filmmaker Basil Joseph has revealed that an attempt was made to cast Indian cricketer Sanju Samson in a cameo role in the film Athiradi, but the cricketer had turned it down, as reported during the film’s Tamil trailer launch event. Reported by Gold 101.3 FM Entertainment Desk, the No.1 Malayalam radio station in the UAE

Basil Joseph said that Sanju was initially approached for a cameo appearance in the film, but he declined the offer, leading the team to consider another actor for the role.

Speaking at the Tamil trailer launch of Athiradi, Basil said, “We had approached Sanju for a cameo in this film. But he had turned it down at that time.”

Sanju Samson, who attended the event amid his busy IPL schedule, responded in a light-hearted manner, saying, “It was a small role. If I am acting, it should be a bigger role. Basil is a great director and he knows what kind of role to give.”

He also added that he has known Basil for years and considers him a close friend. “Basil always keeps smiling, but when it comes to work, he is very strict. I am aware of the efforts he put into Basil Joseph Productions’ first film, and that is why I came here,” Sanju added.
