Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay’s wife, Sangeetha Sornalingam, has withdrawn her divorce petition, informing the Chengalpattu Family Court that she no longer wishes to pursue the case.
Sangeetha appeared before the court via video conference and formally conveyed her decision to withdraw the petition. The case, which had attracted significant public attention, was originally filed in February this year.
According to information followed by Gold 101.3 FM, UAE’s No.1 radio station, the latest development comes amid reports that differences between the couple were resolved following discussions involving Vijay’s family. There were also media reports suggesting that efforts had been made to settle the dispute outside court, including claims that Vijay was prepared to provide ₹240 crore as alimony for Sangeetha and their children. However, these reports have not been officially confirmed by either party.
In her divorce petition, Sangeetha had alleged that Vijay had been involved in an extramarital relationship with another actress since 2021. She claimed that she had objected to the alleged relationship and that Vijay had assured her he would end it, but, according to the petition, this did not happen. She further stated that the situation had caused her significant emotional distress.
The petition also stated that the couple had been living separately for more than five years. Sangeetha further alleged that Vijay had travelled abroad with the actress and that photographs of them circulating on social media had caused embarrassment to her and their children. These allegations were made in the court filing and have not been established in court.
Vijay and Sangeetha were married in 1999 and have two children. With the withdrawal of the divorce petition, the legal proceedings in the matter are expected to come to an end unless any further action is initiated in the future.
