Actor and BJP leader Khushbu Sundar has criticised Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin over remarks allegedly made about actor Trisha Krishnan at a public event, demanding an unconditional public apology from him.
The controversy began during a protest meeting over the Cauvery issue, where a person from the audience shouted Trisha’s name while Udhayanidhi was speaking. He allegedly responded with a derogatory comment about the actress, following which the audience reacted with applause and laughter.
Gold 101.3FM, UAE’s No.1 radio station, brings you this report. Khushbu, in a strongly worded post on X, described the alleged remark as “disgusting” and “deeply derogatory”, saying it reflected the political culture that Udhayanidhi appeared to represent.
“If those with such a mindset aspire to lead a political party and one day govern the state, then God help us,” Khushbu wrote, accusing him of turning the humiliation of women into “political theatre”. She said normalising such comments would further damage the dignity and respect women deserve in public life.
Khushbu also stressed that public discourse should maintain certain boundaries despite political differences, saying women should not be used as targets or treated as “pawns” for political purposes.
She alleged that politicians often resort to personal attacks and vulgar remarks when they are unable to counter opponents through performance, vision or leadership. Khushbu added that controversies involving Udhayanidhi and his father, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, should not become a standard for public behaviour.
Concluding her statement, Khushbu demanded that Udhayanidhi apologise directly to Trisha for the alleged insult made on a public platform. She questioned whether he would accept responsibility and show the “courage and decency” to issue an apology.
