Vijay’s much-awaited farewell film ‘Jana Nayagan’ has opened to a strong response at the worldwide box office, living up to its pre-release buzz. Directed by H Vinoth, the action drama earned an estimated Rs 78.27 crore worldwide on its first day, emerging as one of the biggest Tamil film openings of the year.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film collected Rs 48.27 crore gross in India on Thursday, while overseas markets contributed Rs 30 crore, taking its global Day 1 collection to Rs 78.27 crore.

Gold 101.3FM, the UAE’s No. 1 radio station, reports that the film also witnessed strong demand on BookMyShow, selling 4,54,510 tickets between 6 AM and 10 PM on its opening day. It comfortably surpassed the 2.38 lakh tickets sold by Karuppu, although it remained behind the single-day booking records of Jailer with 10 lakh tickets, Leo with 7.56 lakh, and Coolie with 7.15 lakh.

The booking momentum remained steady throughout the day, with the film crossing the one-lakh ticket mark in the morning, two lakh by 2 PM, and three lakh by 6 PM. The biggest surge came during the evening, with nearly 38,190 tickets sold between 9 PM and 10 PM.

The Hindi version, titled ‘Jan Neta’, also saw a late-night boost, adding more than 40,000 tickets and indicating growing interest beyond Tamil-speaking audiences. The film has been trending across Tamil, Telugu and Hindi categories on BookMyShow.

The Tamil version has received a 9.2 out of 10 rating from over 17,900 users, while the Telugu version, ‘Jana Nayakudu’, holds an 8.6 rating, reflecting positive audience response across regions.

Starring Vijay along with Mamitha Baiju, Bobby Deol, Prakash Raj, Priyamani, Gautham Vasudev Menon and Narain, the film has received favourable reviews from critics and viewers. With strong advance bookings, positive word of mouth and the weekend ahead, trade analysts expect Jana Nayagan to continue its box office run in the coming days.
