As Balan the Boy continues its successful run in theatres, the psychological drama thriller is earning praise far beyond Kerala. The latest to join the list of admirers are South Indian stars Suriya and Jyothika, who have applauded the film, its makers, and its talented cast after watching it.

Gold 101.3 FM, the No.1 Malayalam radio station in the UAE, reports that Balan the Boy marks director Chidambaram’s first release since the blockbuster Manjummel Boys. While expectations were high, the film has managed to establish its own identity, winning over both audiences and critics with its compelling storytelling.

Sharing his thoughts on Instagram, Suriya described Balan the Boy as another “gem” from Malayalam cinema. He praised Chidambaram for choosing an unconventional story after the massive success of Manjummel Boys and for placing his trust in a cast led largely by newcomers. Suriya also commended writer Jithu Madhavan’s powerful screenplay and highlighted the performances of Farzana Palathingal, Adhiseshan K.R., and Mohammed Sinan. He reserved special praise for Tovino Thomas, whose portrayal of Abbas has become one of the film’s biggest talking points.

Calling the film “genuinely overwhelming,” Suriya said every department—from acting and screenplay to cinematography, music, art direction, and sound design—played a crucial role in making the film a memorable experience. In a humble remark, he added that the outstanding performances by the young actors made him feel he needed to “brush up” on his own acting skills.

Jyothika was equally generous with her appreciation, describing Balan the Boy as a masterpiece crafted through Chidambaram’s confident direction and Jithu Madhavan’s constantly surprising screenplay. She praised the film for seamlessly blending empathy, innocence, mystery, and criminal instinct into a gripping and emotionally engaging narrative.

The actress also singled out Farzana Palathingal’s performance, calling her a revelation on screen, while appreciating the emotional depth she brought to her character. Young actors Adhiseshan K.R. and Mohammed Sinan also earned high praise from Jyothika, who said their innocence and natural performances leave a lasting impact. Veteran actress Dolly June’s portrayal of an elderly woman was another standout for her, describing it as an original and fearless performance.

With glowing endorsements from two of South India’s biggest stars, Balan the Boy continues to strengthen its reputation as one of Malayalam cinema’s most talked-about releases of the year. Stay tuned to Gold 101.3 FM for more updates from the world of entertainment.
