A proud moment for Malayalam cinema unfolded in New Delhi as veteran actor Mammootty was conferred with the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian award, during the second civil investiture ceremony of the Padma Awards 2026.
The prestigious honour was presented by President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday, June 23, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Kerala Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan, and several other distinguished guests.
Mammootty was among the early recipients to receive the award, recognising his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema and his remarkable career spanning more than four decades. Widely regarded as one of India’s finest actors, his work has left a lasting impact on Malayalam cinema and the country’s film industry as a whole.
