Health and Devaswom Minister K Muraleedharan has directed officials to urgently report vacancies across various wings of the Health Department to the Public Service Commission (PSC), responding to concerns raised by PSC rank holders over delays in vacancy reporting.

The directive, issued on Monday, calls for a comprehensive review of all PSC-reportable vacancies under the Health Department, Medical Education Department and Ayush Department. Following the review, officials have been instructed to take immediate steps to ensure that all eligible vacancies are reported to the Commission without delay.

The Minister has also directed that clear instructions be issued to department heads and subordinate institutions to streamline the reporting process and prevent further delays. Special emphasis has been placed on vacancies linked to PSC rank lists that are nearing expiry. The Additional Chief Secretary of the Health Department has been asked to prioritize the identification and reporting of such posts to safeguard appointment opportunities for eligible candidates.

The move comes after PSC rank holders submitted a petition alleging that several existing vacancies in the Health Department had not been reported to the Commission. The petition highlighted concerns that delays in reporting vacancies could result in qualified candidates losing their chance for appointment before the validity of rank lists expires.

Speaking on the matter, Muraleedharan said the concerns raised by job aspirants were serious and warranted immediate intervention. He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring transparent, timely and merit-based appointments through the PSC system.

The Minister further noted that timely recruitment would not only provide employment opportunities to deserving candidates but also strengthen service delivery across hospitals, medical education institutions and Ayush centres throughout the state.

The latest directive aligns with the government’s broader initiative to identify vacancies across government departments and public sector institutions and ensure they are promptly reported to the PSC. As part of this effort, the government has proposed a special mechanism to track posts that remain unreported and to review the progress of vacancy reporting on a monthly basis.

To enhance transparency and public accountability, plans are also underway to introduce a digital dashboard that will allow citizens to monitor vacancies already reported to the PSC, positions yet to be reported, and the status of ongoing recruitment processes.

Officials believe these measures will improve efficiency in public sector recruitment while ensuring that vacancies are filled in a timely manner, benefiting both job seekers and public service institutions across the state.
