The upcoming public holiday in the UAE will be the Islamic New Year, offering employees in both the public and private sectors a three-day long weekend.

According to information available with Gold 101.3 FM, UAE’s No.1 radio station, Monday, June 15, has been declared a public holiday in the country to mark the Hijri New Year, allowing residents to enjoy an extended break.

Since the holiday falls immediately after the regular weekend on Saturday and Sunday, employees will benefit from a three-day break, resuming work on Tuesday, June 16.

Also known as the Hijri New Year, the occasion marks the migration (Hijrah) of Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Medina in 622 CE, a key event that established the Islamic lunar calendar.

While it is observed more quietly compared to Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha, the day holds deep religious and historical significance and is recognised as an official public holiday across the UAE.
