Amid escalating tensions within the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), the organisation’s executive committee is set to hold a crucial meeting at its office in Kaloor, Kochi, on Thursday. The meeting is expected to focus on the growing internal conflicts, public allegations exchanged between members and the increasing scrutiny surrounding the association’s leadership and functioning.

Sources indicate that the AMMA leadership is also likely to address the media after the meeting, as controversies involving key office-bearers continue to dominate discussions within the Malayalam film industry and on social media platforms.

The latest crisis within AMMA began after a staff member associated with the organisation alleged that she had been unfairly removed from her position as office manager. The issue had earlier forced the executive committee to convene an emergency meeting in an attempt to contain the controversy and address concerns raised within the association.

Following that meeting, actor and executive committee member Shweta Menon announced that the staff member would be reinstated. During the same media interaction, she also confirmed that actor Ansiba Rajan had resigned from the executive committee and that her resignation had been officially accepted.

The announcement quickly triggered intense discussions online, with many questioning the circumstances behind Ansiba’s resignation and the internal functioning of the organisation. While Ansiba initially remained silent about the reasons behind her exit, she later levelled serious allegations against fellow executive committee member Tiny Tom.

Ansiba alleged that comments were made accusing her of attempting to influence people towards Islam, a claim that rapidly escalated into a larger controversy and sparked sharp reactions from various quarters within the film industry and beyond.

The issue subsequently exposed visible divisions within AMMA itself, with actors Neena Kurup and Lakshmipriya publicly expressing differing views regarding both the allegations and the manner in which the organisation handled the matter. Their contrasting responses further intensified speculation about factionalism and leadership disagreements within the association.

As media attention and public criticism mounted, AMMA later imposed restrictions on executive committee members from speaking independently to the press. The organisation clarified that only the president and secretary would henceforth be authorised to officially communicate with the media regarding matters related to the association.

Veteran actor Mallika Sukumaran has also reacted to the ongoing crisis, urging senior members of AMMA to intervene and help restore stability within the organisation. Describing the current developments as one of the most difficult periods in AMMA’s history, she expressed concern over the widening internal divisions and called for collective efforts to protect the association’s credibility, unity and reputation within the Malayalam film industry.
