The winners of the 2025 Padmarajan Awards, one of the most respected honours in Malayalam literature and cinema, have been officially announced, recognising excellence in novel writing, short fiction, film direction and screenplay. This year marks the 35th edition of the prestigious awards instituted in memory of legendary filmmaker and writer Padmarajan.

In the film category, director Dinjith Ayyathan won the Best Director award for the film Eko, while Bahul Ramesh received the Best Screenplay award for the same film. The Best Director award carries a cash prize of ₹25,000 along with a memento and citation, while the Best Screenplay award includes ₹15,000, a memento and citation.

In the literary category, writer Chandramathi won the Best Novel award for the Malayalam novel Ozhukatha Puzha. Meanwhile, Shanoj R Chandran secured the Best Short Story award for Arappathiri. The Best Novel award carries a cash prize of ₹20,000, while the Best Short Story award includes ₹15,000, along with mementos and citations for both winners.

The special Vismaya Max Award, which recognises a young writer’s first major literary work, was presented to Midhun Krishna for the novel Aparasamudra.

The literary awards jury was chaired by noted writer S Hareesh, with Rahul Radhakrishnan and Pradeep Panangad serving as jury members. The film awards jury was headed by Madhupal and included Vijayakrishnan and Sulochana Ram Mohan as members.

Padmarajan Trust chairman Vijayakrishnan, general secretary Pradeep Panangad and secretary A Chandrasekhar announced that the awards ceremony will be held in August this year.
