The Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) continues to witness internal tensions, with president Shwetha Menon acknowledging communication gaps within the organisation amid ongoing controversies and leadership criticism.
Gold 101.3 FM UAE’s No.1 radio station brings you the latest updates from the Malayalam film industry and key developments from Kerala.
Shwetha Menon said she had realised from the outset that leading the organisation as a woman came with challenges, adding that there is comparatively less respect for her leadership. She also claimed that she often feels “cornered” and suggested that an agenda is being played out against her within the organisation.
She defended the current committee’s performance, stating that it has functioned effectively and insisted that all issues will be taken up in the upcoming general body meeting next month, which she described as a key platform for resolving internal concerns.
Shwetha further pointed to a structural miscommunication within AMMA, saying that in January a legal opinion indicated that most administrative powers were concentrated with the general secretary, which she described as the beginning of confusion within the system.
Meanwhile, executive committee member Joy Mathew responded to allegations raised by former joint secretary Ansiba Hassan against actor Tiny Tom. He said he did not believe the claims of religiously divisive remarks and described the matter as unverified allegations that should be addressed through legal channels if necessary.
Joy Mathew added that allegations alone should not be immediately accepted without scrutiny and said he does not consider any member of the organisation to be a religious extremist. He also suggested that the issue could be the result of misinterpretation or casual remarks being taken out of context.
With senior members publicly expressing differing views and internal communication issues coming to the forefront, AMMA continues to face organisational strain ahead of its upcoming general body meeting.
