The Kerala Cabinet has decided to move ahead with extending the validity of PSC rank lists set to expire on August 31, offering major relief to candidates in nearly 60 rank lists across the state. The proposed extension is expected to continue until November 30, benefiting thousands of job aspirants awaiting appointments.
The decision comes after widespread complaints from candidates who alleged that several rank lists failed to result in appointments during the tenure of the previous government, mainly due to delays in reporting vacancies.

A majority of the rank lists due to expire are related to Assistant Professor posts in colleges. Rank lists for Assistant Professors in subjects including Islamic History, Urdu and Tamil had reportedly expired earlier without even a single appointment being made.
According to previous government explanations, vacancies were not fully reported as the number of Assistant Professors in several subjects was considered already sufficient based on academic hour calculations. However, candidates had strongly opposed this position and demanded a review of the post calculation method.
The issue had gained political attention during the Puduyuga Yatra led by current Chief Minister V D Satheesan when several PSC candidates raised concerns over lost appointment opportunities and sought maximum recruitment from existing rank lists.
Following the latest Cabinet move, the validity of Assistant Professor rank lists in Sociology, Political Science, Music, Psychology, Philosophy, Business Administration, Malayalam and Zoology is also expected to be extended.
Several state-level PSC lists are likely to benefit from the decision, including Higher Secondary School Teacher (HSS) Islamic History, Assistant in Administrative Tribunal, Special Branch Assistant in Police, Fisheries Assistant and LD Typist posts in Boards, Corporations and Companies.
District-level rank lists expected to receive extensions include HST Natural Science, English, Mathematics, Drawing and Junior Public Health Nurse categories.
The government is also expected to explore ways to address delays in vacancy reporting during election periods, which candidates claim contributed significantly to reduced appointments from existing lists.
The next Kerala PSC meeting is scheduled for May 25. If the Cabinet’s recommendation reaches the Commission before the meeting, the validity extension is expected to be formally approved during that session.
