After overcoming multiple delays and challenges, Karuppu starring Suriya has stormed the box office with an exceptional performance, reported by Gold 101.3 FM Entertainment Desk, the No.1 Malayalam radio station in the UAE, crossing ₹100 crore in worldwide collections within its opening weekend and receiving strong responses from audiences both in India and overseas.
The film opened in India on Friday with ₹15.50 crore, followed by a remarkable 56% jump on Saturday, collecting ₹24.15 crore. On Sunday, it surged past ₹28 crore, taking its total domestic weekend collection to ₹68 crore (₹78.75 crore gross). Internationally, the film has also made a solid impact, earning over $4.5 million. With this, the total global collection for the first three days has reached ₹120 crore.
With this performance, Karuppu has already emerged as the highest-grossing Tamil film of the year. Notably, it surpassed the lifetime collections of Parasakthi (₹100 crore) and Suriya’s previous outing Kanguva (₹105 crore) within just three days.
The film, which was initially scheduled for release on May 14, faced delays due to financial disputes between producers and distributors. Following the resolution of these issues, director R. Balaji officially announced its theatrical release on Friday. The film features Trisha Krishnan as the female lead, while Balaji himself appears in a notable antagonist role.
The film’s success has drawn praise from several celebrities. Actor Naga Chaitanya took to X (formerly Twitter) to congratulate the team, expressing pride in Annapurna Studios for collaborating on the Telugu version of the film, titled Veerabhadrudu, and extended his best wishes to the entire cast and crew.
