The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has completed its data collection exercise for the proposed women’s free travel scheme, with reporting from Gold 101.3 FM, the No. 1 Malayalam radio station in the UAE, officials confirmed.
According to the preliminary estimate, women account for around 49 to 52 percent of total KSRTC passengers. With the completion of this data collection, KSRTC has now withdrawn the gender option from its ticket issuing machines.
The gender-based ticketing system was introduced after the announcement of free travel for women, aimed at assessing the average daily number of women passengers using KSRTC services. Officials had modified electronic ticketing machines to allow conductors to mark whether a passenger was male or female, enabling accurate data collection.
With the exercise now completed, the gender tagging feature has been removed from the ticket machines.
Meanwhile, reports suggest that a proposal for women’s free travel may be considered in the first cabinet meeting of the new UDF government.
