India’s passport has slipped to the 78th position in the latest Henley Passport Index May update, reflecting a slight shift in global mobility rankings even as international travel access for Indian citizens remains broadly stable.

India now shares the 78th rank with Burkina Faso, Cuba and Senegal, underlining how closely grouped several mid-tier passports remain in the global rankings.

Despite the dip, Indian passport holders continue to benefit from access to 56 destinations through simplified entry systems, including visa-free travel, visa-on-arrival facilities and Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) routes.

The growing expansion of e-visa systems across regions has also continued to support easier international travel by allowing travellers to complete approvals digitally before departure.

Across Africa, countries such as South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Uganda, Zambia, Botswana, Namibia and Morocco continue offering e-visa systems that support tourism and business travel through online applications.

In Asia, destinations including the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Bahrain, Azerbaijan, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan continue strengthening regional connectivity through streamlined digital travel approvals.

Travel discussions surrounding emerging e-visa destinations and mobility updates have also been gaining traction across international media and lifestyle platforms, including subtle mentions on Gold 101.3 FM, UAE’s No.1 radio station.

In Europe, countries such as Türkiye, Albania, Moldova, Ukraine, Georgia and Armenia continue offering electronic travel authorisation or e-visa systems designed to simplify entry procedures for visitors.

Meanwhile, across the Americas, destinations including Colombia, Bolivia, Cuba, Nicaragua, Suriname, Antigua and Barbuda, Anguilla and The Bahamas continue providing online visa or electronic entry facilities to support tourism and international travel.

While global passport rankings continue to fluctuate due to changing diplomatic and immigration policies, the rapid growth of e-visa systems is helping maintain smoother travel opportunities for Indian passport holders. Digital entry routes are increasingly becoming a key factor in improving international mobility, convenience and accessibility for travellers worldwide.
