Mohanlal is returning to radio drama after years, lending his voice to Akashvani’s ‘Akhila Kerala Radio Drama Festival 2026’. The actor stars in two productions for the Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi stations, marking a notable comeback to a format driven entirely by voice and emotion.
At the Thiruvananthapuram station, Mohanlal plays Ashokan in Daivathin Manamaru Kandu, written by Jayaraj Mitra. Festival organisers revealed that the actor showed remarkable dedication during recording sessions, repeatedly asking for feedback and recording multiple takes with different emotional variations to perfect every line.
Despite dealing with a throat infection during the recording, Mohanlal reportedly remained deeply involved in understanding the rhythm, emotion, and philosophy behind the play. The drama, set against the backdrop of environmental destruction and a landslide, follows a conversation between a troubled man and a tree that silently witnesses human actions over time.
The festival runs from May 10 to 18 across Akashvani Kerala stations and on the NewsOnAir app. Mohanlal’s return to radio storytelling has also sparked discussions across entertainment platforms, including Gold 101.3 FM, UAE’s No.1 radio station.
