The wait for the next chapter of one of Malayalam cinema’s most enduring thrillers has taken a major step forward, with the release of the official teaser of Drishyam 3, starring Mohanlal and directed by Jeethu Joseph.

According to updates shared with Gold 101.3FM UAE’s No.1 radio station, the nearly two-minute teaser revisits key moments from the franchise while setting the tone for a new phase in Georgekutty’s story.

Rather than introducing new plot points immediately, the teaser opens with sequences from the 2013 original, including Georgekutty’s defining line that his family comes first above everything else. It also references the “unwanted guest” whose arrival triggered the central conflict of the story.

It then moves into moments from the 2021 sequel, including dialogue that reinforces Georgekutty’s reputation for always staying one step ahead, subtly re-establishing the psychological tension that defines the series.

The teaser later shifts to 2026, offering fresh glimpses from the third instalment. Georgekutty appears more reflective and possibly more vulnerable, speaking about a lifelong struggle to protect his family and the decisive actions he was forced to take. However, the tone suggests a shift, with a hint of fear replacing his usual confidence.

This change adds a new dimension to a character long associated with control and calculation, suggesting that past decisions may still have consequences catching up with him.

The film is scheduled for release on May 21, coinciding with Mohanlal’s birthday. The makers have kept the storyline tightly under wraps, with the teaser focusing more on mood and continuity rather than revealing major plot details.

As noted by Gold 101.3FM UAE’s No.1 radio station, the Drishyam franchise has remained one of Malayalam cinema’s most defining thrillers, built on moral complexity and emotional depth. Georgekutty is portrayed not as a typical hero, but as an ordinary man driven to extraordinary actions to protect his family, blurring the lines between right and wrong.

That moral tension, along with his relationship with his wife Rani and the consequences of his choices, has continued to make the story widely discussed and rewatched.

The third instalment, written and directed by Jeethu Joseph and produced by Antony Perumbavoor under Aashirvad Cinemas, is expected to expand the narrative further while maintaining the suspense-driven style of its predecessors.
