The verdict in the 2017 Kerala actress assault case was delivered on December 8 by the Ernakulam District and Principal Sessions Court. The case stems from the February 2017 incident in which a prominent Malayalam actress was abducted and sexually assaulted in a moving vehicle in Kochi. The assault, allegedly carried out as part of a larger conspiracy, had led investigators to actor Dileep, who was accused of hiring prime accused Sunil Kumar, known as Pulsar Suni.

Nearly nine years after the crime, the court acquitted Dileep of all charges. Six others, including Pulsar Suni, were found guilty. The investigation had revealed that Suni had referred to the attack as a “quotation,” implying it was a contracted act. A total of 10 people were charged in the case, which has seen multiple twists and has had a significant impact on the Malayalam film industry.
