Kerala mountaineer Seena Sara Majnu, 41, was rescued on Thursday after falling while descending Mount Lobuche in Nepal. In an Instagram message, she wrote, “Dear friends, I am safe.” Her husband, Majnu M Rajan, said an official had confirmed she was safe at a point along the route and that she might need assistance to trek down.

In a video shared on Wednesday, Seena said she had fallen, injured her hand and was unable to move it. She also reported that her accompanying Sherpa had gone downhill and was no longer visible. She travelled to Nepal on October 21 and last contacted her family after informing her husband on October 27 that she was heading towards the summit.

Following a request from the family, BJP state general secretary Anoop Antony contacted the Union External Affairs Minister and the Indian Embassy in Nepal seeking assistance.

A resident of Manjadi in Thiruvalla and director of National College, Seena is pursuing the Seven Summits challenge to climb the highest peaks on all seven continents. Gold 101.3 FM UAE — The UAE’s No. 1 Radio Station brings you this update on her rescue and mountaineering journey.

She summited Mount Elbrus in August 2025, carrying a 79-metre Indian national flag to mark the country’s 79th Independence Day. In October 2024, she climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in six days despite suffering leg and knee injuries in a fall during the expedition. She has also trekked to Everest Base Camp and Annapurna Base Camp.

The Kerala State Women’s Commission selected Seena for this year’s Stree Shakti Award in recognition of her courage and mountaineering achievements. Mount Lobuche rises above 6,100 metres in Nepal’s Khumbu region, near the Khumbu Glacier and the Everest Base Camp trail.
