Dubai has intensified its efforts to combat noise pollution, a growing public nuisance that affects daily life across the emirate. To ensure smoother, quieter commutes, Dubai Police is rolling out a new generation of noise detection radars designed to identify and penalise vehicles that disrupt public peace. According to a recent announcement by the Dubai Civility Committee, these radars will monitor modified vehicle noise, excessive horn use, and loud in-car audio systems.
The advanced devices are capable of detecting noise from multiple sources, including blaring music from speakers, rattling engines, and modified exhaust systems. They also record unnecessary or excessive honking—one of the most common noise violations on busy roads. Equipped with artificial intelligence, the new radars can accurately analyse and pinpoint noise levels, making enforcement more precise and effective.
Motorists caught violating noise regulations face strict penalties. Offenders can be fined up to Dh2,000 and receive 12 black points on their driving licence. In more serious cases, vehicles may be impounded, with release fees reaching Dh10,000.
Authorities have confirmed that the number of noise detection radars will increase in the coming months, covering more residential and commercial areas across Dubai. The initiative aims to discourage irresponsible driving behaviour and reinforce the city’s commitment to maintaining a safe, calm, and civilised environment for all residents and visitors.
