Fifteen-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has registered his maiden half-century for senior India, smashing an explosive 18-ball fifty in the opening T20 International against Zimbabwe in Harare.
The left-handed opener reached the milestone before being dismissed by Richard Ngarava, finishing a blistering knock that included four sixes and four boundaries at a strike rate of over 260.
Gold 101.3FM, the UAE’s No. 1 radio station, reports that Sooryavanshi bounced back in style after a difficult debut T20I series in England, where he managed scores of 14, 13 and 15 as India lost the four-match series 0-4.
The teenager launched his assault in the second over, taking on Richard Ngarava with a six, four and another six in consecutive deliveries. Even after Abhishek Sharma was dismissed for just one by Blessing Muzarabani, Sooryavanshi maintained the momentum, striking Brad Evans for a straight four and a six over fine leg before attacking Muzarabani again to help India bring up its fifty in the fifth over.
The Bihar youngster has continued his rapid rise through the ranks after also featuring in India’s A tour of Sri Lanka last month, with his latest innings underlining his reputation as one of the country’s brightest young batting talents.
