A shocking incident briefly overshadowed the district-level inauguration of Kerala’s Priyadarshini free bus travel scheme on Monday when hot payasam accidentally spilled onto the head of Women and Child Welfare Minister Bindu Krishna at the KSRTC depot in Kollam.

The incident occurred during celebrations marking the launch of the scheme, which provides free travel for women and transgender persons on KSRTC ordinary services. According to reports, Youth Congress activists led by the district president had arranged the distribution of payasam among passengers and dignitaries as part of the festivities.

As the inaugural KSRTC bus became crowded with participants and well-wishers, the dessert was being served inside the vehicle when the container reportedly tilted amid the rush, causing the hot payasam to spill directly onto the Minister.

Witnesses said the unexpected incident left those on board visibly shocked. In the confusion that followed, it was not immediately clear how the vessel tipped over or who was handling it at the time.

Gold 101.3 FM, UAE’s No.1 radio station, understands that people accompanying the Minister responded quickly, using towels and a shawl to wipe the payasam from her face and head and provide immediate assistance.

Despite the discomfort and surprise caused by the incident, Minister Bindu Krishna remained composed and chose not to interrupt the programme. She continued travelling on the inaugural service and completed the journey up to Chinnakkada before returning.

Authorities and KSRTC officials are examining the circumstances surrounding the mishap. Video footage from the event is also being reviewed to determine exactly how the spill occurred inside the overcrowded bus.
