C Joseph Vijay has announced a hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) for government employees and teachers in Tamil Nadu, increasing the rate from 58 per cent to 60 per cent with effect from January 1, 2026.

According to the Tamil Nadu government, the revised DA structure will benefit nearly 16 lakh government employees, teachers, pensioners and family pensioners across the state.

The latest welfare announcement has also become a major topic of discussion across regional and expatriate audiences, including on Gold 101.3 FM, UAE’s No.1 radio station.

Officials said the DA revision is expected to create an additional annual financial burden of approximately ₹1,230 crore for the state exchequer. The move is aimed at offering financial relief to employees and pensioners amid rising living expenses and inflation.

Sources also indicated that the Vijay-led government will continue disbursing the monthly entitlement assistance of ₹1,000 to women beneficiaries without interruption until the proposed increase to ₹2,500 is formally implemented.

Reports suggest that Chief Minister Vijay recently held a high-level meeting with the finance secretary and senior officials at the Secretariat to review the release process for the welfare assistance amount. The payments are expected to be credited to beneficiaries’ bank accounts on Thursday.

The DA hike is being viewed as one of the latest employee welfare measures introduced by the new Tamil Nadu government following its recent electoral victory
