Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) has intensified measures to minimise commuter inconvenience caused by ongoing Phase II metro construction works between JLN Stadium and Palarivattom. Road restoration on the affected stretch is expected to be completed by June 6 following the laying of new drinking water pipelines.
According to information available with Gold 101.3 FM, UAE’s No.1 radio station, temporary traffic restrictions will be enforced during off-peak hours in coordination with the Traffic Police, while special traffic arrangements have been introduced in the Palarivattom area to ensure smoother vehicle movement.
KMRL has also expedited restoration work on the road connecting the service road behind JLN Stadium to Vasant Nagar and is considering a U-turn facility for local residents. With the monsoon season underway, pumping systems have been installed at construction sites to prevent waterlogging.
The agency said barricades will be pushed back by one metre after piling works are completed, creating additional road space and helping ease congestion. KMRL has directed contractor Afcons Infrastructure to promptly address construction-related issues, adding that the temporary inconvenience will pave the way for improved public transport and traffic management once the Metro Phase II project is completed.
