A young researcher from Kerala has earned international recognition by securing the prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Fellowship, one of Europe’s most competitive and respected research awards. Ann Sunny, a native of Nellankara in Thrissur, has been selected for the fellowship, valued at approximately ₹1.5 crore, to pursue advanced scientific research in Italy.
Her research journey will begin at Niccolò Cusano University in Rome, where she will undertake the first phase of a project focused on bioceramics. The research aims to develop innovative treatment approaches for bone-related rheumatic diseases, an important field of medical science that has the potential to improve therapies for patients suffering from joint and bone disorders.

Ann completed her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Sri Venkateswara College, affiliated with the University of Delhi, before pursuing her Master’s degree at VIT Vellore. Her strong academic foundation and dedication to scientific research have now earned her one of the world’s most sought-after international fellowships.
She is the daughter of Panakkal Tharu Sunny, an engineer based in Sharjah, UAE, and Advocate Linda, who resides in Nellankara, Thrissur. Her accomplishment has brought immense pride to her family, her hometown and the wider Malayali community, including expatriates in the UAE.
The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Fellowship is offered under the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme. Designed to support outstanding researchers from across the globe, the fellowship promotes international collaboration, interdisciplinary research and scientific excellence.
