The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Crime Branch, probing alleged examination malpractices in tests conducted by the Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC), is preparing to register another case within the next couple of weeks, with more cases expected to follow as the investigation progresses.
The latest case will be based on the findings of a preliminary inquiry conducted by the SIT after complaints were received from candidates regarding another PSC examination. This follows the recent registration of a case concerning alleged fraud in the examination for the post of Planning Commission Chief-level officer.
According to sources, the SIT’s investigation has uncovered evidence suggesting the involvement of certain PSC officials in examination-related fraud. The evidence gathered so far indicates that officials may have facilitated the manipulation of examination results by tampering with the valuation process of answer papers.
The investigation has also expanded to the PSC’s examination procedures and the systems used to evaluate candidates. SIT officials inspected documents and records at the PSC headquarters, with the assistance of cyber experts. Among the key areas being examined is the process through which onscreen marks are awarded in online examinations.
The inspection of PSC records and systems is expected to continue over the coming days. Officials are also examining whether similar irregularities occurred in other examinations conducted by the commission.
Meanwhile, the documents and evidence collected in connection with the Planning Commission Chief-level examination fraud are expected to be presented before the court soon. The FIR registered in the case did not name any accused. However, sources said the report to be submitted before the court is expected to include the names of those allegedly involved.
The SIT has also initiated an inquiry against the PSC Chairman following multiple complaints received against him in connection with the examination scam. At present, the team is conducting a preliminary investigation to establish whether there is sufficient evidence to support the allegations.
Further investigation and questioning of the Chairman will be undertaken if the SIT finds that the complaints are supported by evidence and are not baseless, sources said.
The widening probe has placed the PSC’s examination and evaluation mechanisms under increased scrutiny. With the SIT continuing to examine documents, digital records and the role of officials, additional cases could emerge in the coming weeks.
