Gold 101.3FM – UAE’s No.1 radio station brings you the latest update from Kerala, where relentless monsoon rains continue to trigger floods and landslides across the state.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod, while Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam remain under a Yellow Alert.
A Yellow Alert has been issued in 10 districts on Monday, with heavy rain expected to continue until August 5. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea due to rough weather and winds of up to 65 kmph.
The state has intensified rescue operations, deploying an additional NDRF unit and Fire Force teams to vulnerable areas, especially Pathanamthitta, where 1,669 people are staying in relief camps. Across Kerala, 65 relief camps are sheltering 1,465 people, with the highest number of camps in Kottayam (23) and Pathanamthitta (22).
Educational institutions remained closed on Sunday in Wayanad, Kannur, Thrissur, Pathanamthitta, Kozhikode, Kottayam, Ernakulam, and Malappuram.
Authorities have warned of waterlogging, landslides, lightning, falling trees, traffic disruptions, and power outages, urging residents to remain cautious and follow official advisories.
The warnings come after heavy rain on Saturday left six people dead and six others missing, with landslides in Idukki and Kottayam among the worst-hit incidents.
