Two days after KSU state president Aloshious Xavier alleged he was snubbed by Chief Minister V D Satheesan at Thevara SH College, the two met on Monday to discuss the controversial appointment of two government pleaders.
The meeting, reportedly facilitated by KPCC president and Power Minister Sunny Joseph, is being viewed as a compromise. While the Chief Minister agreed to hear the KSU’s concerns, the student wing was told that the appointment of government pleaders remains the prerogative of the Law Minister.

After the meeting, Xavier signalled that the KSU was prepared to move on from the controversy. He stressed that the organisation had only presented its concerns to the Chief Minister and dismissed social media claims that the KSU was trying to rebel against the UDF government.
Calling it “our government” and “our Chief Minister,” Xavier said the KSU had no intention of destabilising the government. He added that while the organisation hopes for a decision that reflects its concerns, it cannot predict what the government will ultimately decide.
Xavier described the meeting as positive, saying the Chief Minister listened patiently to the KSU delegation. He also indicated that the Congress leadership has been briefed and that the matter is now under the party’s consideration.
The KSU reiterated its objections to the appointments of Jeona James, citing her alleged SFI background, and T S Sarath, alleging ABVP links. However, Xavier declined to say whether the Chief Minister had offered any assurance on the appointments.
The meeting has effectively restored communication between the government and the KSU, with the appointment row now appearing to have largely subsided, even as the student wing maintains its original stand.
