Motorists travelling between Sharjah and Dubai are being advised to plan their journeys in advance as new traffic diversions come into effect from Saturday, June 13, 2026. The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) has announced a temporary partial closure of Al Taawun Street as part of the ongoing Al Taawun Tunnel Development Project, a major infrastructure initiative aimed at improving traffic flow and connectivity across the emirate.

According to SRTA, the temporary closure is necessary to facilitate construction work at the site of the existing Al Taawun roundabout. The project forms part of Sharjah’s broader strategy to enhance the efficiency of its road network, reduce congestion and provide smoother travel experiences for residents and visitors.

Under the approved traffic management plan, vehicles travelling from Sharjah towards Dubai and Al Nahda Bridge will be redirected through Al Corniche Street. Authorities have urged commuters to familiarize themselves with the revised routes to avoid delays during peak travel periods.

Meanwhile, motorists travelling from Al Nahda Bridge towards Sharjah will be diverted to the newly developed Al Taawun Street, in accordance with the alternative traffic arrangements approved by the authority.

As reported by Gold 101.3 FM UAE’s No.1 radio station, the temporary traffic diversion plan will officially come into effect on Saturday, June 13, and will remain in place throughout the construction phase of the project.

SRTA has called on all road users to strictly adhere to the temporary traffic arrangements, follow directional signs and make use of the designated alternative routes provided. Officials emphasized that cooperation from motorists will play a key role in ensuring traffic continues to move smoothly while construction work is underway.

The authority also stressed the importance of following traffic safety instructions and road signage to maintain safety for all road users, minimise congestion and reduce potential travel disruptions in the affected areas.

Once completed, the Al Taawun Tunnel Development Project is expected to significantly improve traffic circulation in one of Sharjah’s busiest corridors. The project is part of the emirate’s ongoing commitment to upgrading transport infrastructure, enhancing mobility and supporting future urban growth while improving connectivity between Sharjah and neighbouring Dubai.

Motorists are encouraged to stay updated on traffic announcements and allow extra travel time when commuting through the Al Taawun area during the construction period.
