Muslims across Kerala are celebrating Eid al-Adha, one of the most significant festivals in Islam, on Thursday. The festival commemorates the sacrifice and unwavering faith of Prophet Ibrahim and his son, Prophet Ismail, and also marks the conclusion of the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.

Special Eid prayers and khutbahs (sermons) were held at mosques and specially arranged prayer grounds across the state during the morning hours, with large gatherings of devotees participating in the celebrations.

As part of the traditional observances of Eid al-Adha, ritual sacrifices are being performed in remembrance of Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command. Families and friends are exchanging Eid greetings, sharing festive meals and spreading messages of compassion, charity and togetherness.

On the occasion of Bakrid, several leaders extended greetings to the people of Kerala and highlighted the values associated with the festival. Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar said Eid al-Adha symbolises sacrifice, devotion and brotherhood while strengthening unity and harmony among people.

Chief Minister V D Satheesan, in his Eid message, said Bakrid carries the message of sacrifice and self-surrender and stressed the importance of reflecting those values in everyday life. He noted that the spiritual light spread by such celebrations should inspire society towards greater humanity and encourage people to face challenges with courage and hope. The Chief Minister also extended Eid greetings to all residents of the state.

Leader of Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan also conveyed Bakrid wishes, expressing hope that the spirit of Eid would reinforce unity, communal harmony and mutual love among people beyond caste and religious differences. He added that the festival should strengthen the values of brotherhood, compassion and collective responsibility within society.

Eid al-Adha celebrations are being observed peacefully across Kerala, with communities coming together in a spirit of faith, generosity and social harmony.
