High school teachers in the Kasaragod educational district have been directed not to use mobile phones or engage on social media platforms during working hours, except for official purposes. The instruction was issued by Savitha P through a circular sent to head teachers across schools in the district.
The order states that teachers should not carry mobile phones into classrooms unless there is an official requirement. According to the Education District Officer, several complaints had been received regarding teachers using mobile phones during school hours, allegedly affecting students’ learning environment and character development.
The circular noted that the increasing use of mobile phones and social media by teachers during duty hours was becoming a matter of concern and required immediate corrective action.

The directive clearly instructs teachers to avoid using mobile phones for non-official purposes while at school and to refrain from engaging on social media platforms during working hours. Authorities also emphasised that phones should not be taken into classrooms unless required for academic or administrative work.
The Education Department has warned that strict disciplinary action will be taken if violations are detected during inspections by education officers. Officials stated that any teacher found using mobile phones or social media in violation of the order during school visits could face disciplinary proceedings.
Head teachers have also been assigned the responsibility of ensuring strict compliance with the directive. They have been instructed to monitor staff behaviour and ensure that teachers do not use mobile phones unnecessarily or engage in social media activities during school hours.
Education authorities say the move is aimed at improving classroom discipline, maintaining teacher focus and ensuring better academic attention for students across schools in the Kasaragod educational district.
