The expansion project is a strategic response to the surging passenger demand in Downtown Dubai, which often sees massive bottlenecks during New Year’s Eve, public holidays, and major shopping events. Under the new agreement, the station’s total area will grow from 6,700 to 8,500 square meters, effectively increasing its hourly passenger handling capacity by 65%—from 7,250 to over 12,320 travelers per hour. Once completed, the station is expected to serve up to 220,000 passengers per day.
Key improvements include the expansion of concourse and platform areas, the addition of new escalators and lifts, and the complete separation of entry and exit gates to streamline the flow of commuters. The project also features an increase in the number of fare gates, expanded commercial retail spaces, and enhanced landscaping around the station to improve the overall pedestrian experience.
