Dubai-based telecom operator e& UAE has upgraded its live 5.5G mobile network by introducing four-carrier aggregation on commercially available smartphones.

Four-carrier aggregation allows smartphones to connect to four network channels at the same time, instead of one, resulting in faster downloads, smoother streaming and better performance — especially in crowded places like malls and stadiums.

The upgrade combines FDD spectrum, which offers wider and more reliable coverage, with TDD spectrum, which delivers higher data capacity. Together, they are designed to improve real-world network performance, not just peak speeds.

According to e&, the technology increases network capacity and efficiency while supporting data-heavy services such as 8K video streaming, cloud gaming, and advanced enterprise applications. The rollout also marks a step forward in readiness for 5.5G-Advanced services.

The feature is currently live in select areas across the UAE, with a broader rollout planned from 2026 onwards.
